(In)visible Sounds
Exhibition, Curation and Design
(In)visible Sounds explores new communication channels by targeting both the sense of sight and the sense of hearing simultaneously. Through synaesthetic interventions, the artists in this exhibit enable audiences to listen to visuals and look at sounds in various media. The viewer is prompted reconsider, re-observe, and re-shape their own perspectives. These synaesthetic experiences can connect people more closely to others and to their environments.
When my proposal for the show was accepted, my main concern was how to organize the gallery space to function much like a miniature city. There were seven projects to curate. Some work had sounds and some work did not have sounds. At first, I organized the show based on spreading out the sound pieces to separate them. But I realized that the sound would spread throughout the gallery and create layered sounds throughout the entire space. So I rethought the organization to take advantage of the layering of sound, and make people enjoy the space, and relate to each other. I also made a leaflet and the back of it is a poster. I put stickers on the cover so that people could participate and interact with it. Some people even wore sound on their clothes.
